My natrual hair color is dark blonde, and I colored it light brown using Clairol 28 shampoo color about 2 or so months before I highlighted it on 02/27/2007. I don't like the highlights and would like to go back to the brown using the same Clairol hair 28 shampoo hair color, but I want to be sure it won't do something horrible to my hair.

Highlighted hair is very porous and the color will be darker than you expect. Try using a lighter shade, like medium blonde....you can always go darker if it doesn't cover well.

I think you should leave your hair alone for a while. Let the highlights grow out, keeping your hair conditioned regularly, then wait a little while, then re color Those chemicals are so harsh. Better yet, get your hair colored professionally. There are many things to consider when coloring your hair. (skin tone, whether or not your hair has gold tones or red tones to it, etc. The color of your eyes plays into the color of hair that compliments all of the above as well. Keep your hair professionally trimmed every six weeks is important too. It'll keep you from getting dry & frizzy ends. If you choose to color your own hair, just re touch the re growth with the color, instead of coloring your whole head each time. It's not necessary to pull the color out to the ends each time, after applying color to the regrowth & your hair won't get so dried out either.
