Do you have online bill pay? Was it a returned payment?
That happened to me a year ago. I entered in the account information wrong, and the credit card returned the payment. It showed up as a deposit; I called the bank and they explained it to me.
Call your bank.

The bank possibly put it in the wrong account and will find it eventually and debit it back out. I would talk to them and ask them where it came from. If they say they don't know, I still wouldn't do anything for awhile because someone is going to be missing that amount and when the bank starts looking on the date that money was deposited they will find it in your account. I use to work in a bank and we would find mistakes like this and debit and credit customer accounts all the time.

Simply phone your bank and ask when and by whom the deposit was made or if possible check on line.
With that information you can determine if is a legitimate deposit on your account -possibly a refund of some sort - like a tax refund) or a correction of deposit by your bank.
If your research shows that it is not your money, phone the bank and advise them---
Some poor soul may have put the incorrect account number on their deposit. The bank can pull the paper record of the deposit and check the name of the depositor.
Thanks for being honest, many people would not be....

If you are concerned about it you could call your bank and ask them. They should know who put the money into your account or where it at least came from. If they accidently put it in your account instead of someone else's it is better to get it fixed now.

First of all....DON'T SPEND IT! This may not be money that you are entitled to. Call your bank and let them know and they will be able to tell you whether it is yours or not. If it belongs to someone else, that person will be very grateful! Just think about how you would feel if you were on the other end...

Tell the bank that you do not recognize the deposit and you would like for them to research it. There is probably some old lady looking for her money. Be nice and inform them it isn't yours.
