It's called the strategy of advantage (shot-picking).

You do not pick a fight with the biggest guy on the block - unless you have such an overwhelming advantage that you are certain of victory.

Bullies only pick on the weakest. Confronting a strong adversary can result in a loss of face (and teeth).

Well... the US reaction is different because those two countries programs are different !!

North Korea HAS nuclear weapons, and the capability to produce MORE... yet, they have problems feeding their own people... and a reputation for ignoring any treaty! SO, we get the 6-Party talks to involve the neighbors, and make them comply with a multi-step process to dismantle their nuclear and ICBM programs. Like training a dog.... do this trick, get a treat.

Iran denies it has ANYTHING but a peaceful POWER program... so we go to the UN and the European nations that are conducting business with Iran... and attempt to secure THEIR assistance in getting Iran to comply with IAEA rules and regulations.

The CVBG deployment is simply part of the normal rotations... there have been two carriers in the "Gulf Region" since 1991. One IN the Gulf, one in the Med or Red-Sea, and one on the way to replace each... I certainly know since I did 6 Gulf Cruises following Desert Storm.

And those who are going INSANE at reports that the US has "attack plans" against Iran are simple FOOLS... the US Military has "attack plans" for virtually EVERY nation and possible contingency !! From Albania to Zaire... The American people WOULD go insane if we ever had trouble in a part of the world and then didn't have a PLAN on the shelf to deal with it !!

I refuse to see any "dictate" placed by the nation of Israel upon the USA.

The US foreign policy is one that is steered by our own economic self intrests. There is indeed a double standard, though you do not hear it acknowledged by elected officials. Why do you think we were so eager for war in Iraq, but turn a blind eye to Sudan and to a lesser extent, N. Korea?

It isn't a double standard unless you're only able to think an inch deep. The world is a complicated place, and different circumstances call for different actions.

Iran is perceived to be more of an immediate threat. Kim Jung Il is perceived to be more of an opportunist mostly interested in using his nuclear threat to extort treasure from other countries. I also think this two tests were unsuccessful. He is primarily a puppet of China.

Iran is driven by radical Muslim extremism. They are interested in the destruction of Israel and all moderate Muslim countries in the middle east and in world domination under Sharia Law.
