I am getting Married in 2009 in Quebec, Canada. I have heard different things about the costs of changing my last name for his name. I am now wondering, would it just be cheaper to get married in Ontario? Does anyone know?

I am hoping to budget the whole thing. and it's not going to be a huge thing, I'm hoping for just family and friends, we are a fun and simple couple. And I was thinking of instead of a Tux maybe one of his Uniforms? He's in the Canadian Reserves. and because he got his custom Regimental Uniform it costed a little less than 2000$. And I still have my Prom dress, which is white, and beautiful, I can always take it to a local seemstress. and maybe get it updated a little, I'm only 20 right now, so it's a 2 year old dress. I would just need a veil. I want to get married maybe outside, and have the Reception outside, and I want it somewhere that has a meaning to me.

It really depends on what matters to you...but consider this one thing....ten or fifteen years from now what do you want to have in pictures, etc. to look back on and remember. How you looked, how he looked and your friends, the location, the flowers, the reception, etc.....what you have done, is what you will have....and lots of girls later wish they had thought about it more.

Otherwise....getting married is very simple and can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want.....and you can cut costs lots of ways. I think most important is the two of you...a nice wedding picture probably matters most.

Firstly, congradulations on your upcoming wedding. I've been married before and I was married in New Brunswick and it didn't cost me anything to change my name, I just needed the marriage certificate for proof. It only costs money to get the marriage license and to rent the church and a priest. Secondly, if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a plush wedding, you can have a decent, memorable wedding (within your means) if you stay home and get married. Right there you are eliminating the cost of travel. You can also have it outside so you don't have to worry about decorating a huge cathedral or even the cost or renting a church for the afternoon.

My fiance and I are getting married as well, eventually because of the cash flow. I plan on doing the wedding myself. Getting someone in the area to make my wedding cake, making my own decors, it'll be outside and my uncle is a pastor. If you look hard enough, you can save yourself lots of cash at the same time getting the wedding you want IF you dont' get everyone else to do it for you, like a florist to arrange your flowers, a wedding planner, a professional cake maker. You can get what you want at the fraction of the price if you're a little frugal. You can opt on real flowers and buy silk flowers instead, get someone local to make the bridesmaide dresses, get the groom to rent a tux, things of that nature. The only thing I don't recomment skimping on is food but if you're a good cook or someone in your family can cook for large amounts of people you can rent everything you need to cater your own wedding. It's generally cheaper to marry in canada I hear. I don't know the facts about that BUT since I am a canadian have been all my life...there are plenty of scenic places worthy enough for a wedding. I only recommend you wait until late spring, early summer , (mid-june to early july) any earlier than that, there's still snow on the ground in most parts and any later than that, it's so freakin hot, you'll want to get married in a bikini...lol good luck

The past wedding i have been too were really nice..
In Ontario, Canada
150-200 people cost 18,000 dollars.
100-150 people cost 14,000-15,000 dollars

If your going to have less than 100 people or even 150 people. You can have a nice wedding 10,000 dollars for sure. Seeing as you already have a dress and the suits, and such. Now its up to you if you want a sit down dinner or not, thats what is going to be the most money about 5 thousand. Buffet would be cheaper, and have small center pieces, fake flowers for the decorations is a good deal too. Just have your flowers real. It will save you big time.

My cousin, who lives in Hamilton, Ontario is getting married in May. My mother tells me the bill has come to around $20,000 for the wedding, reception, and all the other details like flowers, DJ, limousine, invitations, dresses, tuxedos, caterer, cake, etc. I get the impression that they're not going bargain-basement but they're not going top-of-the-line either. Oh, and they're anticipating 250-300 guests at the reception. Does that give you a better idea?

outside makes things cheaper.

Do you know anyone who can bake a killer cake?
have them do so.

I think the prom dress idea is fantastic. I'm hoping to get married soon myself and you just helped me out alot.
