I live in Michigan (wayne county) and I would like to change my last name. Where do I start?

Go to the county courthouse and ask the county clerk for the form. It is quite easy. The hard part is letting everyone know you changed it.

Name changes are common and fairly easy. Contact a local attorney (since this is not too difficult search for prices), and ask what the fee is and requirements (although they are minimal).

You can contact an attorney and they will do everything for you or you could go to the courthouse yourself and do it. It all depends on how much money and time you want to put out. Pretty common thing.

It depends on your reason for changing it. For example, if you want to change it because you recently got married, you just bring your marriage license to the local motor vehicles office and change it on your license/ID. That's all you'll have to present in future changes (social security card, credit cards, etc.)
