Vitamins do not "make your hair grow" any more than the natural process in your body does. Vitamins are essential to healthy hair which promotes longer hair, by keeping the hair on your head healthy decreasing split ends, dryness, unness breakage etc, your hair can then keep the goodness and add to it with its natural growth.
Essentials for hair growth are your B-vitamins (3,5,6), Iron, Vitamin C and E, fatty acids (found in fish oils and other oils) Wheat germ oil also, B-Carotene, and PROTEIN (the makeup of your hair). Becareful not to provide too much protien (1/week treatment is perfect). Protein treatments are great for immediate repair, I recommend a good old fashion egg or organic products like PHYTO (they make an egg and protein treatment). If you use a real egg be sure to rinse with cool-semi cold water or you'll have a hair omlet.
Some ppl benefit from long term sulfur shampoos because sulfur is great for the hair drandruff. (Dandruff shampoos)
I highly recommend the PHYTO line, O'JON, and NIOXIN. The first two are versatile with hair texture and race. I'm black and I've also used NIOXIN but it is for thinner lighter straighter hair like causcasian. O'JON does have more moisture and is catered to women of culture i.e. Chaldean, Indian, African-American because it provides more moisture than do caucasian hair products.
I suggest a rest period of about two weeks where you don't blowdry or curl and you wear your hair natural , this helps me cleanse my hair.
I also highly and cannot stress enough to discontinue the use of products based in alcohol (usually second or third on the ingredient list) this includes cheap gels and hair sprays. If hair spay and gel is essential to your style then make sure you protect your hair with conditioners.
Definitely for me - the obvious - working out, drinking 3 liters of water a day, balancing my stress and getting sleep (with a satin/silk sleeping bonnet).

Hair growth and hair thickener are two different things. If your hair texture has changed and is coming out then you might consider other medications youre taking or recent child birth can have an effect. A temporary solution is hair thickening shampoos. But if your hair has been coming out and the texture has changed, and there have been no recent changes in lifestyle... then consult a doctor. They can take blood work to see if you may have some kind of infection, etc. In turn they can refer you to a dematologist.

I've heard that Silica is good. If you have a Whole Foods Market or something similar close to you, just browse through their supplements (shelved by catergory), or ask one of the supplement people, they seem to know everything. ;)
Also, There are these little, round scrubbers (I think available at Whole Foods as well) with short but flexible bristles that have been proven to stimulate the scalp and increase hair growth. And they're way cheaper than most of the supplements you can buy.
Good luck. and ... happy growing ... ? ;)

There is no vitamin that will make your hair grow. I'm sorry.
See a stylist, they often have products that can cosmetically help you. Also, changing your diet wouldn't be a bad idea. Have you seen a doctor? Hair loss can be a sign of many health issues.

Your GNC vitamin is not working because taking vitamins has nothing to do with hair growth.

Nothing you take ever will promote additional hair growth. That's a medical fact.
Anything that is being sold that says otherwise is a gimmick.
