It depends on what business they are in.

For example the 'elite' security companies are extensively involved in protection form terrorism. (An example here would be Blackwater International - who provide protective services worldwide.)

Other companies are contracted to the US government to provide things like: perimeter security to government buildings, translation services, electronic support, computer support and logistical support.

Other than not supporting them, nothing. Defense is the job of the government, not the private sector.
