Her credit seems good. I have an interview with her this Sunday. I am trying to see if we are going to be compatible. What are some of things that I should ask her during our discussion? She has a boyfriend. How should I politely tell her I don't want a third roommate? I don't want to come off as too legalistic (although I am a law student) but I want something in writing laying out our expectations for each other....I have to start exams and studying for the bar soon and I don't need any craziness. How do I bring up the idea of signing a roommate contract without putting her off? (She can still decline to take the apartment if I seem too pushy for her which will leave my boyfriend unable to move back to Atlanta where he has two jobs already and commutes everyday.)

lol when I first started to read your question, I thought you ment he found a replacement for you. I was thinking Why on earth would she interveiw her :-). no but really I would just tell her that you will be very busy with your studies.
or is it just the fact that you want your bf to stay :-)

In agreement with The Rabbi.

The contract could be referred to as an "agreement".

A written "agreement" would be an excellent idea, particularly if you are on a lease or responsible for damages according to your contract with the landlord. Check her references. Both should sign the agreement. Consider a deposit for damages or last month's rent.

Outline your expectations leaving some items open for discussion.

Be very clear about the boyfriend issue. How many nights he/or yours can spend the night. That sort of thing.

Don't worry about putting her off, you can find someone else, better to do that than end up with a third party flopping in your home.

You don't know her and know even less about him.

Ask: hobbies, school interests, look at body language. Follow your GUT feeling about the interview. Listen to that little voice in your head.

Good luck.

It would be foolish not to have house rules. Their are a lot of nutsy people. Ask if she will maintain the apartment in at least the same order as you keep it now. Kitchen and bathroom schedules have to be laid out as well as boyfriend visits. Don't forget peace and quiet. Ask her if she will partake in laying out the ground rules. You better have a good contract.

You NEED to be "legalistic" about this. You're considering moving in with a total stranger. Don't feel bad about it. You are protecting yourself and her...put it to her that way.
