Actually it would be best if you saw a neuropsychologist. They have specialized training in problems with the brain (like attention disorders) and can do proper testing so that you can get the right medication and the right dosages. If you do have an attention disorder and you do have to take medication this is very important because if you are given a dosage that is too high, it won't help you as much as the proper dosage. However most neuropsychologist can't prescribe medication, so they will just call your regular doctor and tell them what meds they think are best and your regular doctor can write you out a prescription. Also, this should be covered by insurance, but it really depends on the type of insurance.

Only if it truly interferes with daily life and other methods haven't worked.
Different insurances cover different things. Some cover mental health. Some cover just a little. Some cover none at all. Look into the insurance you have for yourself to see if you're covered.

You can see either. Depending on your regular dr., he may be able to help you.
If you think you have ADD...then you probably do. Good for you for looking into it.
I didn't get checked out until I was in my late 20's...now I take medication every day. It has changed my life!! i was moving up the ladder at work VERY slowly before. After the medication I have been moving up the ladder at a nice pace and making good money.
if you have ADD, find the medication that works for you and stick to it. Don't let someone without ADD tell you any different (they don't understand).

I would. What is it going to hurt to talk to someone? A little bit of pride to walk out of his/her clinic and have been told you didn't have it? I was told I had ADD when I was in treatment for alcohol abuse the second time around. My psychologist ran some tests that found out I had ADD and they put me on medicine. I have since had a calmer life.

Normally the doc at the testing clinic can handle this and will tell you what he recommends for treatment be it medication or psych help or both. The first thing is to get a referral from you regular doc to testing clinic and then they will take things after your testing is done.
