For sure hit the beach for the first 6-8 days, then spend three days in Chiang Mai shopping then wrap up your trip in Bangkok. There may be a Thai Holiday going on during your stay called: Loi Krathong, a very romantic time. Very easy to catch domestic flights to Phuket and other beaches or train or bus.

You save lots of money by taking buses everywhere but the travelling time spent in the bus eats away at your holiday.
You lose between two to three days when you take an overnight bus. At least one or two days on the bus and approximatly one day recuperating from the uncomforatable overnight trip.
Pattaya caters more to the single male tourist. The beach itself is not that great and you can't swim because of all the yahoo's on
jet skis. So if you want to go to a decent beach resort you'll have to fly to either Krabbi Phuket or Kho Samui.

Apart from ill informed comment about Bangkok being tense from the coup the answers have it pretty well covered. There is a nice quiet area just to the East of Pattaya and before Rayong called Jomtien Beach. Easy access to the excesses of Pattaya, about 100 km from Bangkok and very nice. Many Thailand tourism web sites have photos so you can see what is about.
You can probably tell that 14 days isn't enough.
Congratulations.

i would start with a trip to Chiang Mai for a few days, then go south to either Phuket or Krabi (reommend krabi) then spend 3 or 4 days in Bangkok visiting temples, rose garden, shopping areas, both open markets and the malls.

I'd totallly check out the Phi Phi islands off of Krabi. The snorkling was amazing. I had a great time. You can get a cheap flight via AirAsia right from Bangkok.

you need to check out some of the buddhist temples. also if you go north towards ray yong city you will find yourself inbetween the beaches and the mountains. bangkok has been having govenmental issues so it can get a little dangerous in the capital.

I think north part is more better for travelling.
November in Thailand, north part is very cold, but save
In Phuket, that season is sometime have storm,
Anyway, just in case you have to select just one part and already choose Phuket. I think it;s ok.
Nice place, so many islands there. Good luck

Get a thai massage. But ask for a soft one, or you'll be in pain for days
