My 31 year old cousin recently got married in which myself and my mum travelled 300 miles for it. My cousin knows we are very strong christians, and whilst we were there, she said, "Come on upstairs, I'll show you some recent photos. It's been such a long time since we've seen each other". The photos were of hard boiled eggs (shell still on) in between the bare buttocks of men. I'd never seen such a thing and I can't understand why my cousin would want 2 christian ladies to see this kind of filth, especially with my 63 year old mother. What do you reckon?

My cousin is female, by the way.

Can you explain to me why it makes a difference if there christian or not. Where does it say in the 10 commandment " thy should no show thy cousin a picture of naked men" ? I don't see why it would make a difference or not what religion they are. what probably happen is your cousin had this photo and she found it funny so she wanted to share this with you. If this sort of thing doesn't appeal you should have said, but as you said you haven't seen her in a while then it is unlikely she would have know that you would have been offender-ed.

I don't she what common decency has to with religion. isn't Jesus normal depicted as being naked or at most having a cloth on. Haven't you not seen a naked man before? i doubt the image could be described as indecent and i doubt your cousin invited you all 300 miles up the road just to purposely offend you.

So, I don't get this. Are you saying all the photos were of men with eggs in their bottoms? I can't see the point of this nor can I see the point of you being so outraged by a bare bottom - big deal. I would hazard a guess that the reason she showed you perhaps is that she knew you would be so outraged - you do sound rather priggish to say it is 2007 - there is nothing filthy about either buttocks or eggs.

This has nothing to do with being a non-christian, its all about sense of humour. As you haven't seen each other in such a long time maybe she didn't realise how much it would offend you. And i know many women in their 60's who would find this funny!

It may be she doesn't real understand how you feel as believers, so thinks its nothing. You may have forgotten what was normal for you before you believed.

Some people try to do that sort of thing to break the ice. Upper middle class people try that sort of ice-breaker strategy a lot.

Possibly she has some kind of issue with christianity and she was unconsciously doing something to ease that. If people are bothered by something they often hit back, even if they have perceived things wrongly, and theres no real cause. When people hit back they don't always do it tit-for-tat, e.g her boss might be a christian, and may just happen to difficult, and hasn't arrived in a place in his faith where he's ironed out that characteristic.

I think your reaction is what i would expect from strong christian beliefs.... hence that is one of many things that would turn off becoming a believer myself. It seems people like you need to take a chill pill and not take life so serious you could not even laugh at something that is not harming anyone or insulting anyone..... ITS CALLED HAVING FUN!!!!! which you seem to have trouble doing unless it involves jesus.... total yawn from a non believer. Ops, cue the green light for the thumbs down from the god squad for being a non believer.

Im guessing i wont get the ten points for not agrreing with you?

Oh, the horror!!...
Christians have bottoms too, and I've seen the photos of some of my "christian" acquaintances and friends and they are enough to make a grown man blush.
Don't be such a prude. And please don't blame it on her not being a christian. That's just silly.
Peace

she probably has felt that you have tried to force your values upon her as well as be condescending with your belief (remember its just a belief) her entire life.. you refer to her as a non-christian, as if only "non-christians" would be capable of doing such dastardly things (im sure you can think of christian examples of such behavior, if not worse).. and you expect others to respect your beliefs and values when you obviously have no respect for her.. i guess everyone who doesnt believe in christianity is simply non-christian.. there's no such thing as buddhists, or muslims, or jews, or atheists.. there all the same, right?

i think the problem is you, not her.. altho this was a very immature way of expressing her frustration in my opinion

It sounds as though there is some imbalance between the Family members, putting it politely. Stick to your principles and question what motive she had for showing you such photographs.

Sounds like she has no respect. Perhaps you should tell her simply that you found the photos to be inappropriate. I don't think there's anything wrong with telling her, so long as you're kind about it.
I don't know why she would do that. Maybe her sense of humor is just different from yours. Personally, I'm a Christian, and I would have found that somewhat amusing.

I dont think you should judge her on the basis of faith here... even so called "christians" do sick stuff like that. If you indeed are a "true " christian.. you will know that you should not judge anyone else, and also that you must hate the sin, and not the sinner.
