You do not need to tell them about it, however if you do tell them they are not allowed to disscriminate against you[in the reall world] speak to someone at jobcentre they are quite well up on these things now. Also if you are on some sort of benefit through your illness you can still claim that benefit and go back to work[so many hours] and if you have a relapse go back on the benefits you were on ..Good luck...

As long as you're feeling relatively OK for, or can appear so, just keep it to yourself when you get a job. If you've been off for a while, make something up, don't tell the employer that you've had these problems. I've had a few mental health problems myself and they've forced me to leave a few jobs, but I just keep that quiet and get another one. It's a bit of a dodgy old way to carry on, but people out there are far too prejudiced and stupid to employ you knowing you have these issues.

HI there, I had terrible personal problems and out of work for ten years on and off. And also had to learn computer skills WHILST AT WORK for two weeks - I nearly had a breakdown. However, my doctor prescribed prozac and three years on I have a brilliant job in a library. You don't know what you can do until you give it a try - I surprised myself and of course with work, your self-esteem gets a boost. Your doctor or nurse can give you addresses of organisations. Please do it, and you will surprise yourself. Good luck - and have a word with your doctor.

The Job Centre has lots of information about work/benefits if you are disabled:

Mind has an interesting booklet on how to cope at work:

Good luck in finding a job, and well done in getting well enough to look for work :)
