No. That is not the case. You can bleed for a few weeks after childbirth, but that is not a period. After you start your period again after childbirth, they pretty much go back to normal.

When I had my oldest , I didn't start for about 4 or 5 months. When I had the other one, I didn't start for about 15 months. I was nursing the oldest and started anyway, but I nursed the youngest for 11 months and still didn't start for like 6 months after he was weaned. My periods were at most a day or two longer (from 3-4 days became 5, rarely spotting on day 6). I went right back on schedule and never missed or was late when I started. Everyone is different, so if you think something isn't right, ask your doctor, that is where to get the best advice about you.

After you give birth you bleed for anything up to 2 weeks. This is the lining of the womb coming away and as it was there to protect the baby for 9 months there is a lot. It isn't a period in the sense that your ovulation but it is a continus bleed and its sore becuase your womb is contracting back into shape the whole time.

Most woman get a proper period the following month.

When you have a baby.. your periods can take a few months to come back.. I was right on time 4wks. But if you plan to breastfeed.. then they can stop the entire time you are feeding, say you feed a yr then you may not have a period for that long. But some people who breastfeed still have periods like clockwork. So this is not something you can rely on.. sorry.
Just releazied I misread the question..
After my son was born I only bled for about 10 days. Then it came about 4wks later and from then on I was pretty regular every 29 days for about 3 yrs.. then they went to 30 - 36 days.

after you give birth you lose blood for a while (its not a period). For the first couple of days it may be like a heavy period but it should settle after this to a scanty bloodstained loss which will eventually change to a creamy discharge. The length of time this takes varies in different women but usually lasts for a few weeks. Its just your uterus getting rid of all the cells etc that are no longer needed. Once it has done this, you will then start your normal cycle of periods again...some straight away, others after a couple of months.

Lochia is what they call the bleeding after you have a baby. It isn't menstruation but rather your uterus cleaning itself and healing. It can last up to 56 days, but about a month is normal.

After this, particularly if you are breastfeeding you may not have a period until the baby is 6 month to 2 years old. Your periods may be heavier or lighter, depending on the woman.

coming from a mother of 2 .... this is NOT true.

You will have bleeding (not a period) for the first few wks after the baby is born and then it will change to clear discarge ... do remember the techinical term for this. But then you will get a period and be back on your normal schedule.

Hmmm its not a period after you ahve the baby, its after birth (postpartum) bleeding. It can last for a few weeks upto a couple of months. then your periods usually return within a few months, maybe longer if you are breast feeding
