My 8 year old has lice. I just found 1 this morning. I also have a 4 year old son and a 20 month old daughter. Do you think I will have to worry about them getting it? They do play and lay and sleep by each other. What do you think the chances are?? Thanks

These things are freakin' me out!!

To BenH... Lice are NOT dirty. They can not attach themselves to dirty hair. They prefer clean. SO... it has NOTHING to do with cleanliness. But thanks anyway.

Oh yeah. Lice are so much fun ;P Just go down to the drug store, or walmart and get yourself a couple bottles of lice hair treatment. Do your two oldest, and call the doc on your babe. Also pick up a spray bottle of lice treatment, and start hitting your house - areas where lice might be - rugs, pillows, etc.... throw all the sheets, blankets and stuffed animals through the wash on HOT to kill them. You may need to do this a couple times to totally get rid of them all. Good luck!

Almost a 100% chance of it. Buy the medicine, do what you have to. Unfortunately, there are alot of parents that don't pay any attention to what their children are doing or whether their hygiene is up to speed. My children are almost grown now ( 12Th and 10Th grade), and we went through this 1-2 times a year until they were about halfway through middle school. That's when most kids discover the opposite sex, and they clean themselves up. Don't blame the kids, just tell them how to avoid this as much as possible in the future (ex. don't drink after people from the same container, bath and use soap, etc.) good luck. It does get better., believe me.

lice are highly contagious. it is a very good chance they will get them if they sleep in the same bed, share hair brushes or anything like that. you need to get medicine for all of them, even yourself and anyone else in the house. you have to clean all of the bed linens and clean the hairbrushes.

It is likely but there are natural treatments such as lavender oil or cedar oil on the scalp and anywhere else for that matter.

Diatomaceous earth can be used on carpeting and bedding, though some caution must be used as it can irritate the lungs.

I would say your best course of action is to assume they already have them. You need to clean everything and get rid of all those lice and the eggs.

Yes, it is VERY likely the infestation will spread. Prompt treatment is called for.
