Most religions propagate modernisation and advancement of peace the world over, but islam is still babaric, crude, un-refined as evident in amputations, stonning to death, beheading, terrorism, jihad, etc.

Certainly the way it is practiced would tend to suggest that, but there again George W Bush claims to be a christian. Personally I don't think the man has a christian bone in his body.

The Dutch politician, the late Pim Fortuyn claimed that Islaam was a backward faith. He was not, as many claimed, being racist, he was just stating how he saw the religion in the manner it is practiced throughout the world. I agree with Pim, it all seems pretty backward to me.

Actually, there are plenty of places in the world in which beheading and such are done by other groups. In Indonesia, Christians behead Muslims who will not convert to Christianity.
The NLFT, a Baptist terrorist group in India, is also known to behead people. I believe the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda has done so too. They have at least chopped people up with machetes, if not specifically beheaded them. Hindu terrorists in India have burned Muslims alive. In fact, well over 40 million Muslims have been killed by non-Muslims in the past century for their beliefs. The people doing the killings were all pretty brutal, regardless of religion.

If you take a look at Islam in the U.S., 10% of American Muslim households contain somebody with an M.D. These are educated, advanced, modern people. Muslim scientists have contributed a great deal to society. In fact, if I recall correctly, a Pakistani student was one of the creators of Yahoo! back in the day. I would assume that he was probably Muslim. You owe the ability to post here, in part to a Muslim computer geek.

Now, I'm not saying that there are not Muslims who commit attrocities, but they are an extreme minority, as the Christians who commit attrocities are. If you only look at the few bad apples, you propagate the stereotypes and add to the conflicts. Here are some reports on Christian terrorism, they do not represent the majority of Christians though. There are photo links below too.

There are about 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. Can you account for even .01% of them committing acts of violence?

Many Muslims would argue that Islam is a peaceful religion, but then, the holiest shrines always seem to be in places where they regularly behead, hang, stone, mutilate, shoot, torture, interrogate, imprison and blow-up people.

It may be that Islam is peaceful and merciful, but the fact that no-one who is Muslim seems to have the courage to oppose the evil of radical Islam, tends to suggest that they are complete cowards.

Yes, Islam is retrogressive. Read the koran and see for yourself. Islam was muhammad's invention which he used to justify breaking the laws of the real God. Read the koran and see. Surah 33:50 even says muhammad could have sex with slave girls, and many other women, something God defines as adultery.
God's rules are the same for us all, including muhammad who is in hell for breaking God's laws and convincing gullible, and evil, people that he was a prophet instead of the criminal he in fact was.
Wake up and smell the jihad...

Well it is one of the 'newest ' religions, and that becomes apparent when you see how some of it's worshipers behave, perhaps as the religion becomes older some of it's followers might mature a bit.

No, the difference between that and what you think of as modern xianity, is that Islam has not had a reformation, as happened with xianity.
However you will find some moderate, liberal Muslims, as you will find fundamentalist xians.

Terrorism has no claim on any religion. The IRA were not categorised as "catholic terrorists".
