Since the three men got each a dollar back, that becomes $9 dollars paid each. That's 27 bucks for the three of them, and 2 for the bellboy. where is that dollar?

Oh wait, I get it now. Since all they really needed to pay was $25 bucks, the $27 bucks less $25 bucks is the one pocketed by the bellboy, the two bucks. Adding $27 and $2 was wrong because that two dollars should form part of what the three dudes paid. It was simply misleading.

Meaning, that dollar didn't disappear.
