Because the space in a freezer is more of a premium than in the fridge - ever noticed that the walls are thicker in the freezer? Putting a light in when you only ever get in to the freezer once or twice a day is a bit of a waste of space.

Also, most freezers are compartmented into drawers. If you want to have a light in there, chances are either only 1 drawer will be lit, or you'll need a light for every drawer. Now that's a waste of space.

i have had fridges with lights in only the fridge part and some with lights in both the fridge and the freezer. i think it depends on the brand and style. most side by sides i have seen have a light in the freezer and the newer freezer down bottom also have a light but the traditional freezer on top do not have a light.

There are lights in some freezers. I bought a new one recently and noticed some have lights others do not. Depends on the price, size and make.

the fridge stores things at a lower temperature. In the fridge things turn frozen and may be hazardous to have a light since frozen objects might hit the bulb or whatever is projecting a light.

this is only a guess but the fridge and freezer use to only have one door not a seperate one, so I guess when the door opened it lit the freezer, now the reason that they have kept up with times is ummmmm, I dont know.

Too low a temperature in a freezer. Nothing stopping you holding a lit torch in one hand though if you want to search the base of your freezer.

Mine has one but it is on the bottom and the fridge is on top so it is a little harder to see on the bottom with out a light.
