If you have an AKC registered dog, I can guarantee your breeder stipulated in the contract that the dog must be returned if you cannot keep him. The breeder will make sure to find a good new home for your dog. No one is going to buy a 5 year old dog. People want puppies. They will take a 5 year old or get one from a shelter but they will not buy one no matter how well behaved. Do what is in the best interest of the dog and what you are contractually obligated to do. Give the dog back to his breeder and let him or her find a new home for your pet.

I would not worry about how much money you can get but rather how good a home you can find for him. Try contacting the American Eskimo club and ask for their rescue co-ordinator, they may have a list of suitable people waiting to give him a home.

since he is purebred, check for rescues in your area specific to the breed. you might find a good home that way. i wouldn't expect to get money for a 5 year old dog. it is going to be hard enough to find a home for an older dog as it is, let alone to SELL one. but don't advertise "free dog!" because you never know what kind of sickos might show up. some of them might seem legit, but really be looking to sell dogs into research, etc. make sure you REALLY check out anyone you consider giving him to. go to their home, meet them, see how the dog will be kept. if they seem uncomfortable with a home visit, there is probably a reason. find someone else. get references from their vet and landlord (if they don't own a home). i presume you love this dog since you've had him for 5 years, so make sure he is going to be well cared for. if you find a home you are confident is a good quality one, give them the dog for free.

If you really can not take her with you it does not matter if you get anything for her just make sure she gets a good home with people who will love her. Make it an act of love not one of money.

If you really must get rid of your pet that presumably loves you and you him -- then you should shop around for a quality home to GIVE him to.
