Catching a cold is not from the cold. It is a myth. It is from a germ. The reason why going outside with out your coat can give you a cold is because when your body is cold it works very hard to "fight" the cold and stay warm. If your body is not very healthy, than your immune system will be worn down and the germ of the sickness will take control. When your system fights to stay warm, it depletes the body of vitamins/minerals/antioxidants etc, that is VITAL for health. If we dont get enough sleep, water, good healthy food, too much stress etc, the lask of these things or too much stress etc are catalysts to sickness. We take on the actual germ from being indoors and from other people - keyboards, door handles, washclothes, remote controls, etc.

There is no truth to the statement. You cannot catch a cold because you go outside without a coat on, you catch a cold from the germs in the air-regardless of the coat issue. Yes, I believe it was a scare tactic made up by some parent who knows how long ago to get their child(ren) to wear their coats when it became cool outside. Kids don't feel the cold as much as adults do, they have higher metabolism than an adult does-generate more body heat etc.

No. A cold is "caught" through germs and you're able to get the germs whether or not you're wearing a coat. However, if you wear a coat with a hood (and you've got the hood on) less heat is escaping your body keeping you warmer and feeling good!

You catch colds from viruses, not cold weather. But, after you have a cold, the cold weather could make it worse, since you're already sick. Yeah, it was also a scare tactic and a myth parents believed back then.

(yet placed on a sweater! i'm chilly!)

Well, yes and no. You can't catch a cold from being cold, but it does weaken your immune system, making it more likely that you'll get sick.

no you catch a cold from germs, not from being cold. but being cold lowers your ability to fight off germs, so in turn you should wear your coat to stay warm.
