He hates vegetables except for peas. He thinks cheese tastes like aspirin. He loves steak, only eats instant potatoes made with mayo, hates fish and rarely touches fruit. He lives on cookies during the day, or sandwiches made from deli meats. I'm running out of ideas on what to feed him and still be able to feed myself things that I like too. He wants to eat spaghetti made with 2 lbs of hamburger like three times a week! I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

This boy can barely handle boiling water, much less cooking for himself! His mother and grandmother just fed the kids on fast food, fried food and processed foods. I'm picky too, but I like to eat vegetables and fruits and other things besides sandwiches, pizza, steak, and spaghetti. He's 28 years old and says that he's too old to change and if he's gonna die early he might as well die happy.

Tell him either he eats what YOU want to make (and hopefully you like to cook somewhat healthier than what he likes to eat!) or else he can cook for his d@mn self. If you're going through the trouble and time to prepare nice meals for the two of you, he should give you the courtesy of at least TRYING what you prepare. It's been my experience that with picky adult eaters that they've been this way since childhood. They try asparagus (for example) once or twice and never try it again. 20 years later, they still claim not to like it, but it's because they haven't tried it since they were very young. Peoples tastes change over the years.
Why does he eat so much junk food like cookies and instant potatoes made with mayo, etc.? Is that how his mom cooked for him? If so, you need to make it VERY clear before you get married that you are NOT his mother, you don't cook anything like her, and you will not make her recipes because they're garbage and incredibly unhealthy. You're a good cook, you like to cook, you love him and want to cook delicious meals for him, yet he refuses to eat them unless they're from a box or a jar. Put your foot down! Sounds like you do the cooking in the house, so tell him what my mom used to tell me when I was a kid, "This is what I'm making for dinner. If you don't like it, you can go to bed hungry."

Have HIM bomb around on-line @ some of the the recipe sites (there are millions of them, just use Google search) and find some dishes he knows he would eat (based on the ingredient lists). Ask him to bookmark them in your favorites and then you'll have an easy source of ideas for any particular night. Then tell him that you would like for him to HELP you prepare some of these dishes on a regular basis. Don't forget to factor in plenty "fend for yourself" nights throughout the month..........then you can make something that you would really like to eat (a quick and easy cheese omelet with lots of veggies, maybe?) and not have to concern yourself with what he wants that night. You guys can figure out how to make this work, I am sure. Promise each other that you will EACH take a good multi-vitamin once a day to ensure that you are both getting the minimum requirements of the essential vitamins and minerals. Good luck to you. :)

honey, its not going to get any better after you are married. here are your choices:
1) tell him he can eat what you cook, or go hungry. you should not have to compromise your health to feed a grown man. sneak ground turkey or chicken in the next time you make spaghetti - i doubt he will even notice the difference, and at least three times/week he'd be eating SOMETHING healthy.
2) let him continue this eating lifestyle, since with all the preservatives, fat & meat, he won't be around for long anyway (just make sure he has life insurance). one pound of beef in spaghetti sauce is meant to feed a family of four - two pounds is unbelievably excessive.
3) move on! who needs this kind of behavior issues? he definately has control issues, and unless you can nip it in the bud now, you are in for years of struggle if you marry him.

Actually I think that instant potatoes are disgusting too, when it's almost as easy to make real ones.
Tell him that he will eat what you cook, or he can go to a restaurant. The alternative is to find another BF.

I would suggest letting him make his own meals, if he is so picky. I hate to say it, but he is trying to manipulate you! Don't don't don't let him do this! Really now, do you think it will be any better once you are married??? Tell him to grow up, and eat like all adults do. If not, then he can make his own dinners.

I would suggest letting him do his own grocery shopping and you do yours and then you can eat what you like and if you have leftovers freeze them so you will not have to make yourself something one night. Let him fix his own food. I have a rule with my son, he has to try everything once. Maybe if you could get him to try a bite of your every now and then he would learn to like other things.

if he is that fussy, let him fend for himself. you can not be expected to figure out what he is going to eat. when he is hungry he will figure it out. make what you like and offer it to him. maybe he will broaden his horizons and try some new things but if he doesn't like it don't feel like you have to go nuts and find something for him to eat. let him get it for himself.
good luck
