Well, I know what you mean, have you tried prune juice? It always helps my daughter and it doesnt take alot either, but if that doesnt help and she is having a very hard time getting it out heres what you do.... kay her down on her back, put her knees up to her stomach, put your thumbs on both sides of her butthole and kinda press a little and that should hlp her get it out. I know it sounds bad but I had to do that to my daughter and it worked great she felt so much better after that. Good luck I always try to cut down on the milk when she is constipated too b/c it makes it worse

My son just turned 4 and I don't have as many problems with that now because I am able to get him to eat more foods that are high in fiber like steamed broccoli, baby carrots or apples. But when he was younger and he was picky about what he ate, I would give him apple juice. Usually after one full sippy cup he would go. If it had been more than a day or two then I would get the glycerin suppositories and cut them in half or smaller and it would just help it be less painful.

I don't know if you're supposed to do this but it works - a small amount of coffee. My 20-month-old was painfully constipated and I tried giving her juice but it seemed like an emergency so I resorted to about an 1/8 C of coffee... it would probably work better on an empty stomach and as soon as she passes get some food in her! The coffee contracts the muscles and gets things moving, and if you're a coffee drinker you know what I'm saying. Good luck!!!

my youngest son expereienced the same thing when he was around 18 months old (he's 23 months old now). i totally agree with prune juice; but my son didnt like the taste.so i gave my son food with lots of fiber (esp at breakfast time) -- like oatmeal or cereals. drinking LOTS of water helps too. avoid fruits like apples and bananas. give her mashed papayas instead-- it's a natural laxative. but still, if all else fails for my son, i insert a small piece of glycerine suppository to help the poop go out easier ( as precribed by his doctor). please ask you pediatrician first if you can use this on your grandchild. good luck!
