it may be the people who make or accept prejudiced statements such as "religion is an intellectual crutch" that are the intellectually disabled.

Everyone is intellectually disabled. The only difference is how we are disabled. For some people, the disability matches the crutch of religion; for others, it doesn't, and other ways of getting through the day are needed. It's possible for people to be different without one person being labeled as "weak", or anything of the sort. If certain people need religion to give their life hope or meaning, then let them have their fun; as long as they don't hurt anyone in the process, it's no different than someone who believes in an imaginary friend as a crutch.

It isn't an intellectual crutch, even if some people use it that way. There are VERY intelligent people I know who are religious. One of my husband's (and my) best friends is an absolute GENIUS. His fields of specialty are mathematics and science. He's Wiccan. I love debating with him, even though MY skills are much different from his. I'm more of a literature and history type person. I can't keep up with him in math and science, but we still have fun debating.
My point is, what you're implying is that only STUPID people need religion. That just isn't true. I know many intelligent people who are religious, and just as many stupid people who aren't.

People turn to God for many reasons, and are better for it. You would know if you had a meaninfull relationship with Jesus, instead you only have unanswered questions. Christianity is a religion of Love and forgiveness. I am not intellectually disabled but since I found God it has helped me find direction and meaning in my life.

I don't consider it an intellectual crutch,I consider it an emotional crutch. If you cannot or will not build within yourself the strength to deal with the realities of life,or more specifically the realities of your life, then it is so much easier to hand all your problems over to "God".

Mental infancy, like you suggest, is easily obtainable by mentioning an eternally burning lake of fire.
Fear mongers, spread fear to keep their religion alive. Else, it all just dies.
Furthermore, no need to worship or serve someone who kills a member of it's creation, just because they feel too weak to admit they want/need it. This is the height of hypocrisy & ignorance.
I, not caring how much power something has, only care if what is being done is right or wrong. Perhaps if there is a hell, I go there, but should I go, I go in knowing that were things evenly disbursed, and I shared equal knowledge and therefore power to God, he would be quite afraid to do anything to insult me, or I shall destroy his being.

you can take all the religion of the world and drown it in the deepest sea, as far as I am concerned.
But a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the son of God is worth more than all the riches of this world....
