we went to canterbury a couple of weeks ago and it was super... South eastern trains do a deal now where you book the train and get a discount book for all the main attractions. Definitely check out the cathedral and the canterbury tales attraction, and go for a romantic stroll around the city wall and hope that your partner doesn't try to throw you off the roman burial mount (mine tried, failed thankfully.)

BRIGHTON!
I lived there and its so worth while.
With the lanes for shopping, the pier for somethign else and the many bars and clubs aroud there!
check out hotel du vin, which is on the sea front and in the lanes!
or Hotel Pelirocco, which has a few rooms but all completly deisnged differently, wher many artists stay.

Hastings sounds good to me..clubs ..bars...cheap B&Bs
Walks on the beach and stuff..very pretty..plenty of interesting shops

Frinton on sea - close to Clacton....it's quiet & picturesque
