The legal limit for alcohol levels in the body whilst driving a vehicle in the UK are currently:

35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath

80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100ml of blood

107 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of urine
0.08% BRAC (Breath Alcohol Content).

These limits are scientifically based: They are set at a level where, for most drivers, the chance of an accident involvement rises sharply.

Breathalyzer Limits

In the State of California, if someone who is suspected to be under the influence refuses to take a breathalyzer, the officer has the option to "suspend" and take their license on the spot. The suspension is in effect for 30 days or until they make an appearence at a hearing. This happened to a client of mine. He then failed to show up for the hearing, at which point the suspension became long-term. He was caught speeding 2 months later and was cited for driving while his license was suspended. It was a big mess. I would suggest that should you be pulled over after having some drinks, rather than submit to a breathalyzer, I believe you can request a blood test. This will buy you time as they must then transport you to a hospital where you will wait and wait, and then have your blood drawn. The only thing that helps someone sober up is time. Getting the blood test buys you time..

The breathalyzer limit is 35Mg's per 100ml breath. On average it only takes 2 pints to reach this limit. However this is influenced by your build, metabolism and the strength of the alcohol consumed. For instance a higher ABV premium drink will take you past this limit faster than a sessionable lager or bitter.
Best way is not to drink and drive at all. Its not worth it and its not worth the carnage either. I have seen two accidents outside my own front door caused by drunk drivers, both young males, and 5 boys under 18 killed between them. If you had seen either of these incidents it would put you off for life.

Ask your landlord or read the label on the bottle.
There is a big variation between beers - 2.5 to 9.
The limit is about 1.5 pints of "average" beer but, again, it will be greatly influenced by how much you have eaten.
Don't risk it - it is much safer (and cheaper) to get a taxi
Happy imbibing!
