when i do that to my cat he pulls it out from under my hand and puts it on top, we do this over and over. it's kinda funny! but he doesn't hiss. sometimes i can get him to 'gimme 5" on demand without touching his paw. i'm not sure why they don't like it sometimes. my other cat i'm trying to teach to shake 'hands' as he doesn't seem to care about his paws being touched at all.

Is your cat declawed? Some cats develop a sensitivity in their paws when that's been done. My older cat (who's front declawed) doesn't like his front paws to be messed with all that much. He doesn't mind his back paws at all. My 1 yr old isn't declawed and she's got no problem whatsoever with me touching her paws.

I've noticed this! My cat does this also, unfortunately I dont know why. I think that they really just dont like their paws touched.
