Contact social services to see if she qualifies for their benefits. Another place to go is Habitat for Humanity - that would require some work from her family, but she may qualify.

If your granny is too poor to buy her own house, it is unlikely that she could maintain one even if it is completely free. Why don't you consider letting her move in with you? I know several people who have had a grandparent or senior aunt or uncle live with them while they had a young family. The older people often are great with the children, even if they aren't healthy enough to get down on the floor with them. Your family will benefit from the wisdom & experience of your granny. Your granny will benefit because she will not have the burden of a yard, a/c filter to change, kitchen faucets that leak, etc. I am a firm believer in taking care of your own, so unless my granny was a psycho old bat, this is what I would do. I wish her a long & healthy life in the company of her family!

extreme makeover, or whatever that show is called that comes out with that annoying guy from the sears commercials.
be prepared to mug it up for the cameras, and it wouldn't hurt if you embellished granny's conditions and accomplishments.
