Well my father fought for 4 years in WW2 and saw action in north Africa. He was an atheist and died an atheist.
Not sure what your point is. Does one have to be shelled or bombed to become religious??

He's talking rubbish. There's no such thing as a Christian in a foxhole- only realists. If people in foxholes pray it's only to save their own lives and that doesn't make them Christian. My Grandfather fought in the trenches in the first war and my father fought through the second world war and neither of them were remotely interested in religion. It's a real shame that people buy into such fantastic bullsh!t.

Yes, and the WWll Vets are great because they know the word and power of the Almighty God.
To bad they are dying off at a very quick rate.
They fought in WWll and when they came home they became invisible heroes, prayer warriors.
We need more like them!!!
Peace out.

This is very likely true. It is also seen in many jails that have the death sentance. prisoners find peace in god during the time they are waiting to die. this really shows just how feeble our concious thought is. We fear the unknown. The biggest unknown is what happens to our concious thought when we die. For many turning to the possibility that our concious existance will live past our material existance, brings them peace with the fact that eventually we all die.
just one quick question for you all. If pope john paul II was so close to god, why did they attempt to keep him alive well past his time. Wouldnt you have thought they would have been happy he was going to heaven?

This shows that religion is only for those in fear and despair.
Those who enjoy life and have courage and strength to live it do not need religion.
