Becuase they are weak and ignorant, and also possibly jealous fo you. Ignore and carry on. They need to grow up and realise that the world cant revolve around them.
As the saying goes, its better to have people taking about you, than nothing at all.
Those who are your friends know the real you, those who choose to lsiten are actually closed minded.
Life is too short.

most ppl do this because they are insecure about something they then put other in the spotlight about something they have either caught wind of or made up or interperted wrongly they then tell some1 they feel they want to be in with or part of thet crew this is started off with a lil white lie and then ends in them jus saying it so they look beta.
i wouldnt worry to much as these ppl in the end get either found out or they get confronted and turn into cowards they then try to sweeten the person they were talking about up by saying na mate never would i say that about u ur great... dont fall for this s*** jus keep head strong

Join the club-its like all your answers people get jealous.unfortunatley some people thrive on causing problems for other people-There will come a time when you think why am i keep defending myself,thats the time you will see these people for what they are doing.There passing there own insecurities of themselves onto you,they need something to amuse themselves because they dont know how to deal with there own life.So hold your head up high they will get bored if you dont react,cause thats what they get of on.I think the hardest part to deal with is if you are not like that yourself,is how can people be like that

Some people have really boring lives and hearing things about someone else cheers them up and makes them smirk. Other people are down right nasty and want you to be upset and hurt so they stick the knife in to make you suffer - SAD i say - get a life

They say behind u bcoz they do not dare to say in front of u. They r called hypocrites.
We should really appreciate the people who come up to us and say the truth on uor face. Often that truth hurt us and we consider those people our enemies.

You have some wonderful answers there, i hope you will take some advice, believe it or not, about 20mins ago i was just arguing with my partner (not married), he used to work at the same place as me, but he still keeps in contact with some of his friends (and i call them moles), they talk about me to him, they tell him what i do who i am talking to etc, and it pisses me off, my partner made a remark and said to me 'thats not what they say', it hurt, so i said please don't talk about me, i don't like it when people talk about me, and i said to him they have nothing better to do, they all have a sad life, remember this what goes around comes around, the ones talk about other people, they should first look in the mirror, so don't worry about them, i know it hurts, but ignore their comments, they just need to grow up.

Usually there jealous and you have agreater qulaity then they do...
You shouldn't let it get you down, i get it all the time.. hold your head up high, because deep down you know your the person that should be calling names.. but instead you have more self respect and have a few decent bone in your body..
Keep smiling.. their the jealous ones and one day they'll realise their mistakes but it may just be too late...

Because they cant stop themself to gossip. For them it doesnt matter whether the thing they talk about is true or not....what matter most to them....just they have some interesting topic to talk about and they wanna let everyone to know it too.

because ppl dont have the guts to say anthing to ppls faces now adays. if i have a problem with someone i tell them and i earn respect from ppl that way 2 plus i find they confront me 2 if they have a problem wtith me.
