Genesis: 6
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Exodus: 23
14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

1 Samuel: 15
35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

So, God repents. But
Numbers: 23
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.

1 Samuel: 15
29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

So God doesn't repent.
How could such contradiction present in the bible?
Do you really know what does the word (REPENT) mean?
It means that God (DOESN't KNOW) the consequences of his actions??
How could you accept such teachings?

Read these verse the Qur'aan, Allah says (interpretation of the meanings):
"-Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- Who knows (all things) both secret and open; He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
-Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.
-He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

Most of answers said that there are a lot of meanings of the word repent. Fine proove with evidences that God meant the specific meaning you are pointing to, and evidences that proves my meaning is that the bible itself says that REPENTING is a human character and doesn't fit GOD.

Besides, All answers said nothing about contradiction that sometimes God repents, Others not.

Well for one, please remember that repent can have very different contexts in English than what it originally was meant to be. No.2, God is all knowing and is "sad" that His creations sinned and rebelled, but He knows that and knew it would happen, and out of the Goodness of His heart, He is ready to be merciful but at the same time He is all just and it pains Him to punish people for their actions. I think thats what it meant. :)

Okay, according to those scriptures, I'm thinking, that God was sorry, and thus saying in these particular scriptures He was just simply sorry for those things that happened... However, God is "Flawless", He is without Sin!!! He is the creator, of Everything except other people's sins! And therefore, for the word to say He's continuely repenting, simply means He's sorry for this situation or that happening to this person, or that. And therefore, He is alllowed to show "Pain & Suffering" and sadness towards those He loves! In this case He's sorry for these people and whatever situation they've gone through. If your looking too "Cast Judgement upon God Almighty, be very Careful, or He may just SMITE you with a "Bad Luck Streak" of lightening or any such horrible thing, such as lightening!!! If you keep reading the bible it also, says: Thou shalt not doubt, or test the Lord, your Heavenly Father!!! So, be berry, berry, Careful, or He might be watching woo!!! Smile!!!

God does know everything. I think that when it says he repents in Genesis, it means that he regrets making man on earth cause of mans sinful ways. Thats why he flooded the earth to cleans men and the earth of sinful ways.

Repent has many meanings. The english language is a failure to communicate at best.

To return or feel sorrow are two meanings. example::

Genesis: 6
6 And it repented(sorrowed) the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Notice how sorrow and grief are used in combination.
