I fell over last night and pretty badly grazed my knee.
I woke up this morning and it's gone all gungy and slimey, the bleedings stopped but now it's gone like white and euugh. Is it best to leave it to dry out or shall I keep it covered?

I fell down a curb into a muddy road. (ripped my jeans too also)
I have washed it and cleaned it up etc.

It's hard to say without knowing the size and extent of the injury. Also, how did it happen? Was it grazed on carpet, sidewalk, dirty floor?

I would make sure that it's disinfected and kept clean. Letting it dry out would probably make it heal faster.

If it bothers you, see a doctor. That's always safest.

First, wash it with lots of warm water and soap. It'll sting, but there's nothing you can do about that. :(

Then, disinfect it with some rubbing alcohol or iodine or hydrogen peroxide or whatever you have handy.

Next, apply an antibiotic ointment such as Neospirin (drugstore). Bandage the knee to keep it clean.

3 times a day, clean the knee again (gently) and apply more ointment, then re-bandage it.

If it doesn't get better within 48 hours, or if it keeps producing more gunk, go see a doctor. Infections can get very nasty quickly.

I hope you get better soon!

The oozing is natural after a bad abrasion.
Once you've cleaned it thoroughly, apply an antisceptic such as Neosporin and cover it with a non-stick bandage. If you leave it uncovered you risk an infection. Also, it's more likely to leave a scar. An open wound is the perfect medium for the multiplication of germs.

It sounds like a bad infection or reaction. Did you put anything on it after you fell. If you you did it could be a reaction to that. Either way you should check when you had your last tetnus shot and be sure that is up to date. You may need to thuroughly clean out the wound or maybe even have your doctor do it. It isn't worth a trip to the ER but your doc would be good.

Let it air out and then wash it with water or a saline solution. Then apply neosporin or other topical antibiotic.
Cover it with a gauze pad and skin tape. It is best to let it dry out once a day.
Best of luck to you.

It is best to keep it clean and open, let the air hit it until a scab forms, and try to clean it out with peroxide, that will help.

Wash it with soap and water and put rubbing alcohol on it to dry it out. Don't put a band-aid on it; leaving it alone will help it dry out and heal faster.

Grab a beer and toughen up.

There is a chance that it will become infected and your leg will require amputation - but hey - you're a tough guy that skateboards without pads.

So that wouldn't be a big deal.
