I bought a new Dell PC less than a year ago. A couple months ago I had to wipe the hard drive and use the restore disk. I am trying to install IE7 and keep getting the following error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." What appropriate permissions? What does this mean and how do I fix this? Thanks guys.

1 Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools.
Select Activate Windows ( be connected to Internet )
( to be done within 30 days of rebooting the OS)
This will enable you to UPD etc and get IE7
2 If you have the Genuine XP
have you Updated to SP1 and SP2?
If you can update at Windows Update
You can download IE7 only after installing SP2.

Are you running the installer as a normal user or the Administrator? Assuming the specified device, path, or file actually exists, you may need admin rights to access it.

There's an integrity issue here because the installer thinks you are installing it in another PC. (piracy laws). try contacting Microsoft tech support . Have that serial key ready.
