i would cook chicken the night before with some good herbs or a simple maranaide , then when your family comes over make a type of buffet with sliced chicked, lettuce, tomatos, pickles, onions, condiments and have them make their own wraps, it takes the guess work of pleasing everyone and they can make their own so you know they wont be displeased with it.

for Coronation chicken you mix a tablespoon of curry paste with some mayo and apricot or peach chutney and mix in the cold cooked chicken. A small gammon joint would be nice sliced too, boil for an hour, take off the skin, score the fat and cover with mustard and then brown sugar and bake .
Potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad (i use the small size pasta shapes, designed for soup) they hold a mayo or vinegarette dressing just nice - some onion and tomato salad - Slice good quality tasty tomatoes and a large sweet white Spanish onion, lay slices on a plate and drizzle with olive oi and balsamic vinegar - snip a few fresh herbs over too, chives or fresh ripped basil is nice with tomatoes - have some baked potatoes too in case it goes cold out - good luck!!

Hi Catriona, You've come up with a real winner. Coronation Chicken is a superb choice. Shellfish would be good, if pricy, but chicken is a safe bet.and most people like it. I hope you have a wonderful time and receive lots of brownie points from your guests.

That sounds nice - with what - salad? A cold meat platter with coleslaw and potato salad (all cold and prepared the night before) and crusty bread too - perhaps with a cheese board? Good luck.
