fengshui was devised by the chinese more than 4,000 years ago to optimize farm yield. later this was used to win wars by the military during the different dynasties. now, this is used to optimize life in everyday living, either to enhance wealth or to bring good health.
does it work? i don't believe that the chinese will practice them esp in business today if it doesn't work. fengshui is not a religion, it is not based on faith - you do not have to believe it for it to work. it is working right now, while i am typing this. fengshui is not a philosophy. it is not a bunch of rules dictating how to live life. it is a compilation of formulas to determine the location or direction of the good or bad energy and apply proper solutions for us to use them in or advantage.
to say that fengshui is the flow of chi or arrangement of furnitures inside the house is like seeing just small fraction of the huge iceberg floating on the sea. fengshui is much more than that. fengshui practitioners use birthdates, time when you first moved into the house, precise degree your main door is facing, etc. to calculate. there are many formulas regarding to get rich, to make us more healthy, to make us more goodlooking, to prevent the bad from happening, to predict the future, to "escape" the future or what is about to happen, to understand and accept who we are, to enhance our lives, etc. then applications or fengshui solutions range from arranging the different rooms like kitchen and living rooms inside the house, to even flushing the toilet just to attract money.
most western people always try to find the easy way out. for this, they always rely on books published in english. but the thing is that most books only talks about a fengshui that the western people devised themselves because they cannot understand the real thing. most of this is based on clutter - hahaha, how simple that would be. you'd just clean your house and you'll get rich!!!
and there are other ways than to use mirrors, ba gua or the windchime to do some remedy. regarding remedies, i do not really believe in remedies. because remedies make a bad into a neutral temporarily, it does not make it good. if your solution like the windchime was blown by the wind then it reverts back to being bad again. would it be better, if you made some changes to make the bad good like a small renovation? i believe that someone who understands fengshui quite well can find other ways of applying fengshui without the neighbors knowing that you use fengshui.

It's an idea based on nothing. Penn and Teller's show "bullsh*t" featured a segment on feng shui with three different people using the "science" of feng shui to rearrange furniture, all had conflicting ideas on the arrangements, proper colors, etc, with one of the people even commenting under his breath that when he was done the room "still looks like sh*t". They do charge upwards of 3k for their consultations though so it isn't a bad racket to get into if you have no scruples.

these days people seem to think that any eastern philosophy/idea is meaningfull and applicable. Personally i think in a western society things are different, and for good reason. Western society places importance/emphasis (and I fully agree with this) on individuality and creativity (not that Eastern cultures don't). Therefore, it makes more sense to decorate youre abode with things you like and how you like it. Your life space should be a reflection of your personality, not some person with a diploma in Feng Shui. So, in answering your question, if you live in a Western Society, yes, it is bull, otherwise, it's probably bull too.

I think it is an aesthetic language to describe ways of creating harmony and balance in the positioning of home objects.
Its mysticism is just the way in which this language is expressed.

It is ancient and it is the religion of the Chinese. But maybe it is a fact because it is ancient and ancient means a thousand of years ago.

I think with a little bit sense of aesthetics and color harmony, one can do much more without having to delve into commercialized "peace".
