I think the answer is 26 not 36....
Its 100 without twice as many(not +50) but with half as many (100-50=50) and again half as many (50-25=25) plus 1 (25+1=26).

Oh boy! We will all be head-bangers after this. Assuming you mean 'your' friends, try this:
Twice as many as half as many puts you back to square one.
Then the other second half as many.
Assume 199. Plus 1 is 200, less half as many is 100, less half as many is 50. Plus half as many is 100.
No more time to devote to this question, the men in white coats have come for me!
