I squeeze all the air out of the ziplock bags or use gladware. For portioning meat, I wrap each portion in a couple sheets of wax paper, then put them in the ziplock and squeeze the air out. I like those ziplocks with the slide thing on them because the cheaper ones could pop open when I rummage through the freezer and I wouldn't know.

Usually this is caused by incorrect packing when putting food in the freezer. All the air needs to be out to avoid freezer burn. Also, don't leave things in the freezer too long.

There is a new product on the market called Glad Press and Seal, which I find excellent for freezing things like chicken breasts without air.

air in a bag causes freezer burn, you want to make sure that you get as much air out of the product as possible before you freeze

To avoid "freezer burn" you need to wrap your food good like in Tin Foil and use air tight containers too.

Try to finish the food within 3 months of buying it. Also, make sure that it you store it in plastic bags, there is no air in them.
