I am going to a Yankee game in May. Staying at Holiday Inn Laquardia Airport. What would be the best way (safest) to get from point A (Hotel) to point B (Stadium).

Either take a cab to the stadium (rather expensive) or take a cab into the City - tell the driver to take you to 14st. Union Square. At Union Sq., get on the 4 train going to the Bronx. Take that to 161st. (where everyone else with Yankees gear are getting off).

OR The 7 train is about 5 blocks from the hotel. Ask the desk clerk for walking directions (5 minute walk, tops). Get on the Manhattan-bound 7, take that to Grand Central. At Grand Central, transfer upstairs to the Uptown 4 train. The 4 takes you to the Stadium.

All routes are safe.

First, ask if the hotel's shuttle offers service to any subway station. Chances are they'll go to the elevated station at Ditmars Boulevard (N and R trains) or to one of the many underground stations on Queens Boulevard (which numerous lines serve). If you can get to one of these stations, board any Manhattan-bound subway and ride to Lexington Avenue. Transfer to the uptown 4-train, and ride north to 161st Street, which is an elevated stop just outside Yankee Stadium. On a game night the subway will be perfectly safe (and crowded) well after the game. If your hotel doesn't offer a shuttle to the subway, I'd suggest you take a cab to Ditmars Blvd. Note, however, that in Queens you usually call cabs; except right at the airport they don't cruise nearly as much as in Manhattan.
