Trust me when I tell you that getting a DLP projector is a better buy. Not only do I work with them but I used to build the chipsets for both technologies.

The finished DLP product will be more versatile for multiple purpose uses. The DLP will also give you a better contrast ratio
or Dynamic Range (difference in luminous intensity between the whitest whites and blackest of blacks)

The only advantage the LCOS LCD projectors have is in the inherent reduction of motion artifacts due to the slightly faster rise/fall time of the LCD pixel vs the DLP DMD mirror.

Not all LCOS based LCDs have the three chipset light engines, most of the cheaper ones actually have one LCD chipset and a spinning color wheel as do the single chip set DLP based units.

Color is subjective but due to the fact that LCD is dependent on polarization to create a decent contrast ratio, it is subject to colorshifting across the viewing area.....wheras DLP is not.

DLP is the way to go.

The DLP will always give you better "black levels" and much better color than an LCD...But right now, the LCD projectors offer 3 separate chips inside...(one for each color) this offers slightly better picture quality (sharpness and brightness) over the single-chip DLPs.

But for the return on your money, the DLP does the job just fine...I recommend checking out the "INFOCUS" brand...More specifically the "ScreenPlay 4805"...Here's a link to check it out: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/InFocus-ScreenPlay-Entertainment-Projector-SP-4805/sem/rpsm/oid/113968/catOid/-13322/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

And I know folks will tell you with those specs, that projector can't possibly be any good...But our DVDs look great...Our Hi-Def signal look even better...Our laptop is perfect on the big screen...And with the "Faruja DCDi" chip (the best up-converting hardware in the world), even the VCR looks almost as good as Hi-Def.

Obviously, you can buy a hundred better projectors out there...But for the money, you can't do better...You've got to see it to believe it.

Personally I have never seen any projector (even a $40K Runco) that is anywhere near as good as a $2000 plasma or LCD flat panel TV, so before you drop the cash, do some comparisons.

An HD projector can in basic terms extremely enhance the image high quality of a typical-definition DVD precise now. you will could desire to attend till HD DVD and Blu-ray gamers grow to be extra value-effective and customer-friendly till you rather be conscious an significant distinction. the reason in the back of this is because of the fact your DVDs have been designed to help a definite determination (the two 480i or 480p). yet HD DVD and Blu-ray gamers are designed to play the hot HD DVD and Blu-ray discs which could help 1080p determination. it is while an HD projector will are available available. As for DLP vs. liquid crystal exhibit: Their pictures are very practically thoroughly the comparable. the sole ingredient is that an liquid crystal exhibit will take in much less area, and a DLP will take much less outta your wallet. it easily relies upon how plenty you're keen to spend, and the place you prefer to place it. however the image high quality is very practically precisely alike.

DLPs are somewhat less complex and, hence, a little less potential for problems. They are also less expensive. LCDs use a rather complex prism arrangement that is prone to getting dirty.
