Playback of a video download is too dark, how can I adjust the brightness?

I have tried to play it back on different video players including real player and media classic but they dont seem to have features for adjusting the brightness. It is not a problem with the monitor. Any help would be very gratefully received.

I;m afraid your gonna have to stick with what you've got, unless you have a lot of spare cash to splash, there are products out there that can do this, but, they are very expensive.

on your monitor there is a brightness button
