I prefer Microsoft Office. OpenOffice.org just doesn't seem to work for me and there are some things that you can't do on OpenOffice, such as clip art, that you can do on Microsoft.

OpenOffice and Office 2000 are very similar in the way that they can create and edit documents. There is a slight formating issue with OpenOffice when opening documents created in Word (sometimes it doesn't line up right) but aside from that there is not much else of a difference. OpenOffice is capable of creating and editing more types of documents to include PDFs. Since Office 2007 is out, I am not sure how much longer MS will support Office 2000, if they still do. If you are used to Office, then Open Office may take a little getting used to.

Between the two i would vote for OpenOffice, although it does take a little getting used to because things are laid out a little differently. OpenOffice does have everything MS Office has. I just got MSOffice 2007 and have yet to give it a good try, but it seems to be better than OpenOffice, at least until the updates come out.

OpenOffice may suffice for most people, it's okay and free. But as far as being better than MS Office, even the older 2000 version, no, it's not as good I don't think. It's getting there though.
