My pans are Stellar, heavy gauge stainless steel with a thick sandwiched base, and a nice bellied shape too. I've had them for about 20 years, and includes a large straight sided stockpot that I use for jam making, and the lid of that fits the frying pan.

I don't have a dishwasher but they are dishwasher and oven safe.

Apart from Stellar, there's Prestige.
Hope this helps.

Low end items are Farberware (a waste of money since the pots and lids crack easily) and Revere ware (a good buy for low end pots).

Wolfgang Puck was rated one of the worst by consumer magazines as was Emirel, Rachel Ray, and a few other celebrity backed cookware. Price isn't always an indicator of good, lasting quality. Warranties are meaningless if manufacturers (like Farberware) don't stand behind them.

I just purchased a set of 10 ss pots from Kitchen Aid. They are very heavy weight and of superior quality. You can buy the
pieces open stock. The set was $199.

Calaphon makes a nice set, but their prices are very high. However, I do own their non-stick frying pans, which can't be beat for quality. They are oven proof, too. Watch the sales for these items.

Well I am not sure if they are available in the UK, you would have to check. But my husband and I had received several gift cards to Wal-Mart for shower gifts and we used a couple to purchase our stainless steel cookware at Wal-Mart. The brand is called Tramontina. It was less than 70 for a 8 piece set. They are dishwasher safe. I am an avid cook and use mine everyday and I have been married for five years. Mine still look brand new. Hope this helps. :)

Hi Caroline
I bought a set of stainless steel pans from Ikea about three years ago and they are fantastic nothing ever sticks to them and there so easy to wash. Mine are still sparkling.
I totally agree with you I don't like non stick pans either after a while the coating comes off and sticks to your food UGH.
Hope this answers your question and helps you.
Good luck.

Le Creuset are made of cast iron (thick base) very expensive though....it could be as much as £65(and more) for a single pan.
Or another choice would be Circulon by a company called Meyer, most of the TV chefs use them....i do too!
You can get a set of 5 Circulon for approx £150

Go to the cookware section of a major store like Selfridges or John Lewis and ask professional advice. Explain that your on a "pot of the month" scheme and they should be helpful in order to secure your future business.

Go with "Roy Boy". His suggestion is the greatest and that cookware is the best... you can use a whisk, fork, metal spatula, or a small tractor on them and no harm done. You will be able to put them in your will!
