I'm a police dispatcher. You will probably get cited for No D.L. in possession. You can tell the police officer your name and date of birth. He'll give the info to his dispatcher but we might not be able to pull up your record without your actual driver's license number. Each state formats their returns differently. Since you don't have your id on you, the officer will want to know your height, weight, and eye color (hair color isn't listed). Hopefully, the listed weight is accurate. I haven't been any where close to the 110 pounds listed on my D.L. for years! Also, you better make sure that your scumbag brother that is a couple of years older or younger than you doesn't have warrants out for his arrest. Where I work, we check the names and address listed on the vehicle registration for warrants, so, if you have someone living with you that has warrants, we'll tell the officer. If you are of similar height, race, and age of the wanted subject, the officer is going to assume that you were just giving him a fictious name to avoid arrest. He might have to bring you into the detention facility to fingerprint you. He'll send off the fingerprints to the FBI and hold you until they send a response saying that you are not the wanted person. Or the agency that has the warrant might be able to fax a mugshot. In Kansas, we can pull up your driver's license phot so we print those off a lot if a driver is having an identity crisis. Long story short: Try to NEVER FORGET to bring your driver's license with you.

Your name, date of birth, social security number. With that they can find out if you have a license, where you live, what your driver history is, if you have any warrants for your arrest, if there is a restraining order against you, if you are a registered sex offender, and what your previous record is. You are supposed to have a license on you. Most cops will let you go, but some will give you a ticket. Also, don't lie. They will find out.

Name and date of birth will bring up your license. Naturally you'll have to also tell him/her which state. Now...if you are going to be summonsed though most police officers will want a photo identification of some sorts (official, not a check cashing card for a grocery store). This is to verify you're who you say you are.
In my department, no ID, you are taken into custody and held at the station until someone can come down with photo ID. So a word to the wise. Carry an alternate form of photo ID.

The officer checks the license, looks at the picture vs your face, runs the license number through his dispatch to see if the license if valid or not and whether you might have any warrants out for you. If you don't have your license, he'll ask for your name and DOB. He might give you a ticket for not having your license.

Not sure which state you are in, but in Illinois you are required to carry your drivers license while driving in a vehicle. Otherwise it is not OK! You can tell the officer whatever you want...At that point you should be ticketed for failure to carry D.L.

Like Gina C. said we want name, date of birth, physical descriptors, etc. to prove who we pulled over. I wrote everybody I stopped for no D.L. in possession in case they were using somebody else's name. They could pay the speeding ticket, but the no D.L. in possession was a court appearance required, so they had to prove who they were.
Otherwise you have people paying tickets, or letting them go to warrant and then 6 months later they come to our police dept. and they ask me if I recognize them as the person I stopped.
Heck after 6 months unless they took a shot at me or something I am not going to recall them.

All driver information is on a central computer system. We can access this with the person's name and date of birth. With it come all the vehicles registered to you and your address. We can also check for warrants and criminal records.

Nothing at all. He needs to SEE to BELIEVE. They check for the expiration date, also if you have a driving restriction, such as use of eyeglasses. The license number may also be used to check with a central database for history of driving tickets or if you have been flagged for being a criminal on the loose...

Tell him the truth that you don't have your license and then tell him what your name is and date of birth but they will ask you what info they need.
