If you plan to do a workout longer than 1 hour, it’s a good idea to consume a carbohydrate snack 1 hour before beginning to help stabilize your blood sugars and give you energy during your workout. Higher energy for your workout means that you’ll obtain more benefit from it. Choose proteins and unrefined carbohydrates such as oatmeal, whole grain cereal, yogurt, energy bars and fruit and low in fat, sugar, and cholesterol.

You should eat some complete potein. Such as some type of meat, or protein supplement mix. If you are working out for strength you will need more protein than the average person. Take in protein before and after the strength workout.
