A better, but more expensive emotional crutch, might be a therapist. Just kidding! I hope this is sort of a joke, making a stab at religion as an emotional crutch. That's how my brother refers to it. And you don't need God. Invent your own imaginary friend, give him whatever name suits you, pretend that he can hear and know everything, that anything good that happens in your life is a gift from him, that anything bad that happens in your life is a result of his arch-enemy (or as a test, whatever works for you), and rely on him for everything. See, now you have your own deity to worship. Since neither of them truly exists or has any of the above named qualities, you'll be situated the same as our Christian peers.

God wants us to be happy - but only if we demonstrate that we are willing to do the right and honorable thing first|

He will put us to the test - in the dark night of the soul - to determine if we will do the right thing, simply because it is the right thing| Then after that, if we prove that we love God for His own sake and not merely for what we can get out of Him, He will grant us our heart's desires|

If you study the Bible closely, it preaches this exact message|

Belief in God is acceptable- don't touch religion with a barge pole.
