According to the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence), SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - a class of antidepressant) are the first choice for treatment of bulimia and the guideline specify fluoxetine as the main choice.

No drugs other than anti-depressants are recommended for the treatment of bulimia.

According to the International Journal of Clinical Psychology: "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy appears to be the most effective treatment for reducing binge/purging episodes. Behavioural therapy, short term psychotherapy, family therapy and fluoxetine are all equally effective."

Most commonly used medicines are ssri's.selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors,again often used for depression.
