are out of control. This has happened in every major city. I am so glad that I was not brought up Catholic or many other religions. I am a Christian but a simple one. It is obvious that these priests who are not allowed sex are perverts and their perversions are acted out on little children. This was a huge case in Los Angeles as well and the church paid out many millions to victims. If any other organization on earth had this many molestation cases the orginization would be shut down completley. I think at the very least, the Catholic church should lose it's tax free status and the Cardinals like Mahoney in LA should go to jail for aiding and abetting these evil people. What is your opinion? Yeah, there's a seperation of church and state, but there should also be a "seperation of Church and rape". It's quite apparent.

Babysitters far outweigh priests in child molestations so should all parents who hire one be held accountable if some kid in another state is molested by someones babysitter there? I think that any priest who molests a child should go to jail but that does not mean the Catholic church should be totally blamed. You will find offenders from any institute in the system from teachers to police to mailmen and on and on. We need to work on child abuse being stopped period and that is in all cases. I think the system everywhere should come down on child molesters a lot more then they do and make sure that the penalty is high for these reprobates.
I do think that a person in trust of a child should be screened and organizations should do everything possible to make sure that the people they employ are not offenders.
By the way, the reason the Catholic church has more offenders is because it is so large. You have to take into account when you find things wrong in an establishment that you have to go by percentage of people. Example would be that there is more crime in Chicago then there is in Boston due to more people in Chicago.
I do hope that these priests go to jail and people know that they are not what the church is about. By the way I am not a Catholic so I can go to bat in this issue in a completely unbiased capacity.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is that pedophiles intentionally infiltrate EVERYWHERE that they can gain access to children. They are teachers, scout leaders, youth organization leaders, therapists, guidance counselors, nurses, doctors, politicians, ad nauseum. We can't just close down every organization that has unknowingly included pedophiles. It just wouldn't work. I also think that the Catholic Church, by it's nature of forgiveness, has made some very WRONG decisions...but for the right reasons. I hope they have learned from it and can begin purging pedophiles from their ranks.
