There's a pretty girl on my course, I am in my final year and she is in her first year. How do I ask her out so that if she says no I can continue to go to the same lectures as her without looking like an idiot ?

ask her out to an occasion as support, or just so you don't go alone(which could make you look like an idiot?) but if all goes well things may develop further.

All you can do is take the risk. If she says "no" it could be because she has a boyfriend or doesn't want to get involved with someone who is in their final year. It's her loss if she doesn't want to give it a try.
If she says "no", then go to the lectures and always give her a smile and a nod, another words, act like it's okay.
You're not always going to get what you want in life. You need to learn how to deal with it and be classy about it.
Look at it this way..wouldn't it really suck if 10 years from now someone told you she always liked you and hoped you'd ask her out..and you didn't take the chance? Talk about a waste..

don't ask her out without knowing her!
Get talking to her first, sit next to her at break and pass comment on something, in a humorous way. Try to look relaxed, start a conversation.
Greet her on other occasions, a friendly wave and hello '...' will go a long way to build friendship. You will soon sense if she likes you. THEN:
Ask her to join you and others at a get together (party? Gig?) so it doesn't become a formal 'date'.

why dont you invite a few others as well - like maybe organise a night out for a few of ye - then ask her and if she says no just be like fine yeah no probs - if she does agree to go - you can spend the evening with her whilst sussing her out and seeing if you think shes into you that way!
If all else fails go in for a snog - if you get rejected just say you were drunk and apologise the next day!

ok, heres what you do, you tell her you and a couple of friends are gonna go hang out somewhere, ask her if she wants to hang with you . If she says yes, you, her and some friends go somewhere, that will give her time to get to know you a little then you will see if she is interested. If she says no, you say ok, but if you change your mind, the invite is open.

You could ask someone to suss her out for you?? But personally I think you should grow a set and just ask her!! What's the worst that could happen? She may say no but then you can just move on to the next pretty girl.

I don't think you can really ask her without her knowing you like her - its a bit like trying to make tea without water, just not possible - you need her to know your intrested or else whats the point in her going out with you

Ask her to lunch. She says no then hell with it, it was just an offer for lunch.
She says yes, you talk to her and see if you can turn it into something more like dinner, movie, etc..
Take it easy, be confident and no matter what happens you took your shot and got it out of your mind!

Find out where she goes drinking turn up get talking to her and kinda pretend you drunk so that anything you can say can be passed of the next morning as 'oh god I was so wasted last night'
