go into the bios of the computer if you press F2 when it first starts up before you get to windows, it should get you this information be careful not to change anything though because your computer may not work afterwards. The reason they do this is that in theory only engineers can get to it. It may also have a password on.

You should take into consideration what you may want to use the computer for in the future. Generally speaking you should also buy the best processor you can afford because this is the hardest part of a computer to upgrade (if not impossible).

As new software comes out and updates then they will require better processors to run. You can install extra or bigger hard drives, you can install extra memory fairly easily especially in a desktop. However its not that easy to change a processor.

All the peripherals you can buy at a later date if you cant afford it.

You can find out what mobo is installed by going to start/All programs/Accessories/System tools amd System information. The mobo will be on the first page as it opens.
As the others have said you have described very undemanding applications so buy the cheapest of everything and save a little cash

You can find it at the "System Information" in the Start Menu, in the Accessories, then System Tools. Look for your motherboard type.

Or you can use the software "CPU-Z", which you can download from the internet. It's a very cool software. You can see specific information about your computer.

For typing and spreadsheets you could just get a used cheap computer, otherwise building a computer you need to match it to your processor eg if you buy an AMD 940 pin processor you will need and 940 pin motherboard for AMD.

hI,EASY , WELL KIND OF , YOU NEED TO OPEN THE DESKTOP SIDE PANL, THEN WITH A FLASHLIGHT SHINE IT ON THE MOTHERBOARD AND SEARCH THE EDGES FOR A SERIES OF NUMBERS OR NAMES. SOMETIMES THOSE NUMBERS WILL BE A MODEL NUMBER AND YOU WONT FIND ANY BRAND NAMES, TRY TAKING THE SMALL NUMBERS AND JUST TYPING THEM INTO THE SEARCH ENGINE AND YOU WILL FIND THE MANUFACTURER OF THE MOTHERBOARD. _sCOTT d
