even if you cover your mouth?

Yes. It makes your host /hostess feel as if he/she has done something to bore you and you're not having a good time. Next time, use your dinner napkin to cover your mouth instead of just using your hand to hide it. And should the host /hostess catch you, say,"Excuse me".

I would say yes, as it shows the hostess that you might be bored and not having a good time.It might also indicate to others at the table that you might be bored with then. I know that is not always true, and that we yawn for a variety of reasons not just boredom, but that is the perception anyway. I taught english in Japan for a while and they were very strict about not yawning in front of the students so one learned to yawn without opening the mouth. It is not as satisfing a yawn, but it will do till you can be by yourself and really let go.

It might be ok, if its a buffet dinner and people are walking about the place. But if you're seated at a table, I think its rude, even if you do cover your mouth.

Keep your mouth busy when you feel a yawn coming on.....sip your drink, or eat something. Clenching your jaw shut also helps, but you have to be discreet about this one.....people might think you're in pain otherwise.

It probably depends on the people you're with at the time. I don't think it's rude to yawn as long as you cover your mouth, however my grandparents generation probably would consider it rude. I think if you're in company that you think might be offended by it, then try and be discreet, however if you're around friends who wouldn't be perturbed by it, then make sure you cover your mouth. :o)

I think it's rude to yawn loudly AND without covering the mouth, no matter when one yawns.

It should be done discreetly, since at times it becomes really difficult to stifle an yawn ( especially if someone is repeating a long oft heard story)- after a sumptuos meal!.

Yes, especially if it's a sit down dinner, it means you are telling your host/hostess that you are finding the party boring. Not a very nice thing to do.

yawning is a natuiral bodily function, usually related to the lack of oxygen within the environment you are in, it is not rude, but if you find you are repeatedly yawning, excuse yourself and go wash your face and try to snap out of it!

Not if you cover your mouth. Try to be as least conspicuous as possible while covering your mouth!
