is that why they need emotional crutches like 'God' and 'heaven', because the life on the earth was too cruel to them?

yes, most of them are from a bad childhood, educated people can also have a bad childhood, they try to find 'love' from a third source, but they can actally get love from themselves

Actually, there are alot of people who feel unworthy of church due to their shady past not realizing that it is the very place where they are welcomed. Now, by your question and statements, I would hazard to guess that you have never been in a church and paid any attention at all to your surroundings. There is much diversity in all churches. One thing that you ignore is that one of the categories that some people fall under is "well educated". So, your insults are misguided. Why don't you take away your crutch of pride and hate? You'll walk straighter.

No, I know people who have never gone to church who live horrible lives and claim that God doesn't exist and that religious people are nuts. According to them, they're right, everyone else is wrong and religion is stupid. So, the answer to your question is no. As far as the rest of your statement,,,I'll just consider it like the other opinions that I may not agree with.

God did not protect you from your parents, he won't protect you from life.
Even though that had nothing to do with your question, I felt it was a semi-valid response. I do know a good deal of people that were molested as children who are now devout Christians and Catholics.

No. Most religious people come from a religious background. End of story. Politicians come from politicians, actors from actors, doctors from doctors....see a pattern.

You are speaking of 85% of the population of the United States of America. Don't you think your presumption is just a little ridiculous?
