Caps is yelling at worst and annoying at best. When I want to emphasize a word without being *rude*, I put asterisks around the word. *Subtly* gets the point across while still working within the confines of netiquette and Yahoo's guidelines.

Yeah I've heard this before. When computers were first introduced in school, I took a computer class, and they taught us computer etiquette. And they said writing in all caps is shouting.
I think that is dumb I too use caps to get a POINT ACROSS. Not shouting. I don't reallt care if someone writes in caps, I don't know why yahoo does. And you're right if you wan to shout, you should be able to. LOL
Yahoo canceled my e-amil account for no reason either, and I have noway to retrieve old mail and now I can't even change my e-mail address on some places like myspace because you need to confirm that it is you by checking your email! I asked yahoo why they canceled my account and they said they can't tell me that. So now I have no idea where all my mail is going and i can't change my passwords on different websites I was involved with.
Oh well good luck with your yahoo troubles as well =)

I don't think they object to a couple words in caps for emphasis, as you did in this question. But using caps for the entire message is indeed considered shouting, shouting is usually considered as a rude habit, and thus many people don't like it.

Also, capital letters are more alike and most people find them harder to read even though they are bigger.

because in net-speak/cyber-space, caps equals shouting. yahoo!answers is a cyber space equalivent of a huge cafe where everyone is busy interacting and asking questions.caps will be like having a guy suddenly start yelling randomly expecting someone to respond. Naturally it's turn-off as it reflects bad etiquette and response will mostly be negative.

That's why no caps.

the same reason it's rude to answer a question in all caps... it's annoying, and we can read normal print... caps is yelling and do you yell your questions at people in real life? it would be rude to do that... so the same applies on here. just cuz you're not face to face, doesn't mean your not still yelling at them. be nice and talk small! (: makes everyone happy.

Shout all you want but keep in mind that it's like telemarketers. They can call, but we can hang up.
